A letter from the Proctor

This letter has a note from Joseph Needham written on it to say "Keep this carefully for while we have it, I don't think we need ask for permission again."

CHRIST'S COLLEGE,
CAMBRIDGE.

                                                                                                                  January 25th 1929.

Dear Dr. Needham,
In reply to your letter of the 23rd inst and the proof giving details of The Round I should certainly be prepared, in view of what you say as to the membership, to give the necessary Proctorial Licence when you are proposing to hold your dances.

Perhaps if I say this now it will save your Mr. Cann the trouble of waiting upon me.

                                                                                                            Yours sincerely,

                                                                                                            T. C. Wyatt.

Dr. J. Needham,
Gonville & Caius College.

The 1942 minute-book records "Among the Records there has been found a letter dated January 25th , 1929, which, in a note by Joseph Needham, is interpreted as practically a Carte Blanche from the proctors."

We certainly haven't asked for permission recently.
