The Playford Ball

The Round organises a Playford Ball each year, and invites past and present members of the Round to attend. It is a formal but relaxed chance to pretend you have just stepped out of a Jane Austen novel. All the dances are called so it isn't too scary.

Kentucky Running Set

Kentucky Running Set has nothing to do with Playford dancing but it is traditional for a set or few to run a set during the interval. We will be teaching this between 7:30 and 8:00 (hall availability permitting) before the weekly Thursday meetings during the Easter term. Notices of KRS practise will be sent out via the mailing list.

Tickets are £10 each, to include a sherry reception and buffet supper with wine. Admission is by ticket only. Tickets are available either at weekly meetings, or by sending a cheque made payable to “The Round” and a stamped addressed envelope to: Christopher Fish, 13 Garden Walk, Cambridge, CB4 3EW. Tickets are limited and supplied on a first come, first served basis; therefore please book early to avoid disappointment.

As usual the programme has been largely selected from Palmer's Pocket Playford; paper copies are available with tickets, along with cribs for those dances not appearing in this book.

Many thanks to those past members who provided puddings last year; this is always very much appreciated. If you would be willing to help in this way this year, please indicate what you plan to provide and an approximate number of servings (to facilitate the food arrangements).

The event is followed on the Sunday after the ball by a punt party to Granchester Meadows.

Hugh's History of the Round includes some information on the history of the Playford Ball.
