The Round organises a Playford Ball each year, and invites past and present members of the Round to attend. It is a formal but relaxed chance to pretend you have just stepped out of a Jane Austen novel. All the dances are called, so it isn’t too scary, but if you haven’t done much English country dancing before it would be a good idea to come to some of the regular Thursday meetings this term.
The Ball is held on the Saturday following the last day of Cambridge University Easter Full Term, so in 2018 it will be on Saturday 16th June, and it will be at a new venue, the Storey’s Field Centre. (Map – shown as “Community Centre”) This year the band will be (most of) Momentum.
Tickets are £10 for students, £15 for others, to include a buffet supper. Admission is by ticket only. Tickets are available either at weekly meetings, or by sending a stamped addressed envelope to Stephanie Wong, Selwyn College, Cambridge CB3 9DQ (enquiries to sw780 at cam.ac.uk). Payment may be made by cheque payable to “The Round” or by bank transfer to the Round’s NatWest bank account no. 16564685, sort code 52-10-46. If paying by bank transfer, please be sure to give your name as a reference.
Tickets are limited and supplied on a first come, first served basis, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
As usual the programme has been largely selected from Palmer’s Pocket Playford; paper copies are available with tickets, along with cribs for those dances not appearing in this book.
Many thanks to those past members who provided puddings last year; this is always very much appreciated. If you would be willing to help in this way this year, please indicate what you plan to provide and an approximate number of servings (to facilitate the food arrangements).

|Kentucky Running Set|
Kentucky Running Set has nothing to do with Playford dancing but it is traditional for some to run a set or two during the interval. We will be teaching this between 10:00 and 10:30 after the weekly Thursday meetings during the Easter term. Notices of KRS practice will be sent out via the mailing list.
The event is followed on the Sunday after the ball by a punt party to Granchester Meadows.
